Lome is the capital and major port of Togo. Togoland, of which modern Togo was formerly a part, was colonized by the Germans in 1894. Banjul is the capital city of the Gambia, a small West African country bordered by Senegal. The city sits on an island where the Gambia River meets the Atlantic Ocean.
